The Show Me State Games held annually at Webster Groves is a qualifying competition for the 2009 State Games of America. The State Games are held every two years in Colorado Springs and is an Olympic style multi sport event. Athletes from all over the United States have the opportunity to qualify to participate by earning medals in their own state competitions. Over 10,000 athletes in more than 15 different sports participated last year in July 2007. Approximately 1,100 of these athletes were competing figure skaters. In fact, Michelle Kwan served as the Grand Marshall for the 2007 event.
Skaters who place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their event are eligible to compete in that event in the State Games. Athletes have the 2 years prior to the State Games (Jan. 2008 & Jan. 2009) to qualify for participation. So if you are interested and missed this year's Show Me State Games, plan to attend them in 2009.
A number of our skaters have participated in past State Games and found it to be a fun experience that provided challenging competition and the opportunity to meet fellow skaters from across the U.S. Anna Berry, Becky Billings, Ali Kitchen, Callan Luetkemeyer, Kate Stratman, and Jessica Van Eschen have all attended State Games in the past.
Upper Great Lakes Regionals
Four skaters represented JCFSC at 2008 Upper Great Lakes Regional Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa! Congratulations skaters!!
JCFSC is part of the Upper Great Lakes Region consisting of Illinois, Iowa, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The 2008 Upper Great Lakes Regional Championships was the first of two competitions qualifying skaters for the USFS National Championships. In an Olympic year, the USA Olympic Team is chosen from the top skaters at the Championships.
Anna Berry competed in Novice Ladies, a qualifying event for Sectionals. This was Anna's third Regional competition, but her first qualifying event. Her warm up group included skaters such as "the jumping shrimp" from the movie The Ice Princess and National competitor Kirsten Olson. Anna skated a personal best since advancing to the Novice level. She placed ninth in her Novice Ladies Qualifying Round. |

One of Ali's private students also won a gold medal at the 2007 State Games competition. Ali has been a member of JCFSC for 10 years! |
